Putting People in the Picture
November 26-29th 2013 2-5pm
Jubilee Library, Brighton
Life doesn’t always go according to plan and many people find their lives affected by HIV, mental health issues, domestic abuse or drugs and alcohol. These can happen to anyone and are often hidden problems that can carry a stigma. Volunteer Living Books will make themselves available to be ‘borrowed’ by members of the public for open conversation about their lives and experiences.
Though an unusual concept, the RISE Living Library has been described by readers as ‘beautiful, inspirational and moving’.
“I was just passing and didn't have the time to build up expectations. It didn't matter. It is so inspirational and beautiful. I feel grateful people wanted to share their experiences.” Reader 2012
“Great to really put the person into the story. I really loved it!” Reader 2012
“It was incredibly moving to hear direct experiences of what it's like to cope with the personal experience of HIV and AIDS, and in particular, how it feels to be on the receiving end of ignorance and prejudice.” Caroline Lucas MP
The event is free – all you need is curiosity and an open mind.
The RISE Living Library is held in partnership with Think Drink Drugs, THT and Albion in the Community, Game Changers.
