Your invitation to the RISE Living Library

Living with, or leaving, an abusive relationship is complex, sometimes dangerous, and never easy. The RISE Living Library is a chance to meet people whose lives have been affected by domestic or sexual violence and abuse, for an open and honest conversation.  Come and borrow a ‘Volunteer Living Book’ and hear stories of survival.

Now in its 7th year, and with successful outings at the SICK! Festival in Brighton and Manchester, the RISE Living Library is established in the events calendar as ‘unmissable’.  2016's event is held in association with the University of Brighton.

Though an unusual concept, the RISE Living Library has been described by readers as ‘beautiful, inspirational and moving’.

I was just passing and didn't have the time to build up expectations. It didn't matter. It is so inspirational and beautiful. I feel grateful people wanted to share their experiences.”

Great to really put the person into the story. I really loved it!

Living Books include survivors, refuge workers and the police . Each ‘reading’ lasts up to 15 minutes.

The event is free – all you need is curiosity and an open mind.
