Gifts in Wills

By leaving a gift in your Will to RISE you can leave a lasting legacy of hope to women and children affected by domestic abuse and violence.

Have you ever thought “I would love to support RISE – but I am not in a position to right now”?  Making your Will provides an opportunity to make a difference.

Legacies are special gifts. However big or small you can be sure that it will mean huge amount to the people that we work with.

Legacy gifts are critical to the future of our work and the future of women and children across the country.

Why RISE?

  • RISE was formed in 1994 as The Women’s Refuge Project and since then has provided sanctuary and support for people in the Brighton & Hove and Sussex area.
  • We have respect within the sector – we work with a variety of organisations and institutions including the police,  local councils, the government, schools and local women’s and LGBTQAI organisations. We also provide expert training for local businesses, local authorities and schools and youth groups.
  • We have the trust of survivors.  We are a needs-led organisation, focusing on what our survivors require to rebuild their lives.
  • Our work is long-term and it is life-saving.

There are three types of Gift you can leave in your Will to support our work:

1) A share of your estate (called a residuary legacy) is the percentage of the remainder of your estate once all other legacies and costs have been paid.  Whatever your circumstances, a percentage can make a real difference to our work.  Also, it won’t be affected by inflation, so your gift will retain its value.

2) A specific sum (call a pecuniary legacy) eg £10,000.  Its real value will decrease over time due to inflation unless it is index linked to the Retail price Index.  We are grateful for all legacy income received, however, it is worth being aware that a gift of £100 may be worth a lot less in 20 or 30 years’ time.

3) A specific item of value such as an antique or jewellery.

Once you have decided what type of gift you would like to leave in your Will, please ask your solicitor to use one of the suggested wordings below:
