8K Undercliff Run for Women

Date: Sunday 8th October 2017
Time: 10.15 am
Location: Saltdean

The 8K Undercliff Run for Women is a scenic race along the seashore, alongside Sussex’s famous chalk cliffs, from Saltdean towards Brighton and back.

This year 430 women took part, which included 4 x relay teams and 18 over 60s. 2017 marked the tenth anniversary of the event, so for this year only we had a one kilometre dash for ten-year-old girls.

The run is RISE's signature, annual fundraising event raising funds to help survivors of domestic abuse in Sussex. Donations and sponsorship are used to provide practical solutions, shelter and support for local families affected by domestic abuse.

Teacher Kate Orrells was running because she is a survivor of domestic abuse and was helped by RISE. She said: “Five years ago my two young sons and I fled an awful situation. Rise helped me through my healing process with counselling; they reprogrammed me and helped me to find strength to not feel so alone”.  Kate ran with her mother, Jayne, who described her daughter as ‘very courageous’.

The winner of the race was 16 year old Naomi Fonteyn who ran the 8 kilometres in 32 minutes and 32 seconds. If you took part and want to check your race time, you can click here for the race times of all participants.
