Are you feeling festive yet? The snow we saw in November certainly made it clear winter has arrived. And winter brings Christmas, a time that most of us hope will be filled with love and light, with fun, family and friends.
Sadly, it’s not the most wonderful time of the year for everyone. We can all feel an increase in stress at this time of year but here at RISE, we know that for women, children, and other people with experience of abuse, it can be particularly difficult.
Abuse spikes around Christmas, the usual support networks of work, regular clubs, classes, even school gate meetings, are gone for a while. Even after survivors have left an abuser, it can be an emotionally difficult time. Money is often tight for survivors, and it’s common for survivors to want to make the festive season super special, after difficult times. RISE offering gifts can take some of the pressure off mums, and means that all those we work with will receive at least one gift this Christmas.
We’re currently working with around 80 babies, toddlers, children, teenagers and young people and I’m asking you today to help us light up their Christmas this year with a gift.
Our Amazon Wish List has gifts for all ages starting from just £4.44. If you are able to help, we would love it if you could shop from our list before 5pm on Wednesday the 4th December.
This will give us time to wrap and distribute the gifts. Please remember to leave the gifts UNWRAPPED - we need to know what each gift is so we can allocate it correctly.
Every single item purchased will help a child or young person affected by Domestic Abuse have a happier Christmas.
I’d like to thank you, personally and on behalf of RISE and the people we support, in advance for anything, and everything, that you can do. It matters. It makes a difference.
