For the next seven days, we’re asking you to make a real difference to the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in Brighton, Hove and the surrounding areas, who have experienced Domestic Abuse and Violence
We’re proud to be part of the The Big Give Women and Girls Match Fund and throughout this one week campaign, all donations you make to us through the Big Give website will be DOUBLED at no extra cost to you.
Domestic and sexual abuse and violence are pervasive issues in England and Wales, with most crimes hidden and unreported. Since the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, children that have been exposed to domestic abuse are now recognised as victims of domestic abuse in their own right, rather than just witnesses.
In Brighton and Hove alone in 23/24 there were 5,130 domestic abuse crimes and incidents and 1,209 recorded sexual violence and abuse offenses. According to the National Domestic Abuse Commissioner, 67% of survivors in Sussex did not get specialist support for their children and just over 50% who wanted advocacy support did not get it.
In the last year RISE supported 956 adult survivors who between them had a total of 822 children. It costs £50 to provide one counselling session – every single penny you can donate between noon Wednesday October 8th and noon Wednesday 15th October will go twice as far.
